Executive Director

We’re looking for a collaborative, driven and ambitious, business-minded individual who has a passion for new work, supporting writers and connecting with audiences nationally.

Our Executive Director is responsible for the company’s financial stability and accounting processes, providing impeccable governance and operational management for the organisation and ensuring an inclusive and supportive working culture for all Paines Plough staff and wider freelance community.

Alongside the Joint Artistic Directors/CEOs, the Executive Director will develop the company’s next business plan from 2027-2030, creating and implementing fundraising strategies to support its delivery.

Please note that the incoming Executive Director will not be solely responsible for Paines Plough’s upcoming Arts Council England NPO application.

We are open to candidates with or without prior direct Executive Director experience.

Salary: £45,000-48,000 depending on experience.
Contract: Full-time, fixed term for 5 years.

Open Auditions are our way of broadening our horizons when it comes to casting, and getting to meet actors we might not otherwise get to know.

We travel up and down the UK, meeting actors for a quick chat and a monologue or duologue from a play written in the last 15 years. We also hold open auditions online.

We’re not always casting for something specific; it’s simply a chance for us to meet you, and for you to meet us.

We’ve cast a number of actors we met in Open Auditions in Paines Plough productions. Many more have come in and met us for formal castings for shows off the back of a great Open Audition.

We keep everyone’s details on file, and we look back on our notes on Open Auditions every time we cast a new show.

It’s one of our favourite ways to spend a day, meeting lots of great people and watching extracts of brilliant new plays. If we have any Open Auditions coming up, they will be listed below.
